Teeth Whitening
What is involved in whitening teeth?
The dentist will take impressions of your teeth to make custom trays. It is also recommended to have a hygiene appointment to ensure your teeth are clean and any stains removed.
Once the trays have been made, the dentist will show you how to use the gels given.
Teeth whitening gels do not affect crowns or implants, but there is a technique called 'walking bleach' for root canals and crowns. This involves putting a hole inside the tooth and filling it with a bleaching agent. The tooth hole is then filled with a temporary filling and left for the bleach to work.
We do not recommend over the counter pharmacy home whitening kits. The trays are not aligned to your teeth so the gel can get on the gums and irritate the gum. Over the counter kits are also not as effective as professional whitening.
